1. Who this covers
This policy applies to the Pretext iOS app and the website at pretext.life. Pretext is provided by Anh Tran, also identified as tsnanh (“Pretext,” “we,” or “us”).
The app does not require an account. We do not operate an advertising network, sell personal information, or use your activity for cross-app tracking.
2. Data kept on your device
Your actions, excuses, receipts, Board items, outcomes, Focus activity, settings, and related history are stored locally by the app. We do not receive that content just because you create or view it.
If you delete the app or use its data controls, local data may be removed. Device backups are controlled by Apple and your iCloud settings.
3. Optional anonymous analytics
Pretext uses TelemetryDeck to understand whether product flows work—for example, whether an onboarding step completed or a paywall button was tapped. Analytics are enabled by default and can be turned off in Settings.
We send categorical product events and coarse values such as source, variant, redaction state, eligibility reason, and count bucket. We do not send your typed actions, excuses, chat text, evidence, local record IDs, or name.
TelemetryDeck may process an anonymous installation identifier, event timestamps, and device or app metadata needed to provide aggregate analytics. It states that IP addresses are not stored. See TelemetryDeck’s privacy information.
4. Optional Mochi chat
Chat is optional. When you send a message, that message and the relevant context shown or described by the app are sent through Pretext’s Cloudflare service to OpenRouter and the selected model provider so a response can be generated.
Pretext’s proxy does not store chat content. It uses a pseudonymous device identifier to enforce service limits and prevent abuse. Free-tier quota counters are retained for up to 8 days, crisis-safety counters for up to 2 days, and aggregate budget totals for up to 40 days.
Cloudflare, OpenRouter, and model providers may process request data under their own terms and policies. Avoid sharing information you do not want processed by these services. Learn more from Cloudflare and OpenRouter.
5. Purchases and subscriptions
Apple processes App Store purchases and payment information. Pretext uses RevenueCat to verify entitlement status and subscription lifecycle information such as product, period type, expiration, and renewal state. We do not receive your full payment-card details.
6. Notifications, support, and this website
Notifications
If you enable reminders, notification content and scheduling are handled on your device. You can change notification access in iOS Settings.
Support
If you email us, we receive your email address, message, and anything you choose to attach. We use it to respond, troubleshoot, protect the service, and keep necessary support records.
Website
This website does not set product-analytics or advertising cookies. Cloudflare hosts the site and may process request and security data, such as IP address and user-agent information, to deliver and protect it.
8. Retention, security, and international processing
Local app data remains until you delete it, remove the app, or your device or backup settings remove it. Service-limit records use the periods described in the chat section. Support messages are retained only as long as reasonably needed for support, safety, legal, or business records.
We and our providers use reasonable safeguards, but no storage or transmission system can guarantee absolute security. Providers may process information in countries other than yours, subject to their safeguards and applicable law.
9. Your choices and rights
- Turn anonymous analytics off in Pretext Settings.
- Do not use chat, or avoid including sensitive information in it.
- Manage notification permission in iOS Settings.
- Manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple account.
- Use in-app controls to export or remove local data where available.
- Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of support information we hold, subject to applicable law.
10. Children
Pretext is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through support or chat, contact us.
11. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the product or legal requirements change. We will change the effective date and provide additional notice when appropriate.
