1. Agreement and provider
Pretext is provided by Anh Tran, also identified as tsnanh (“Pretext,” “we,” or “us”). These Terms supplement Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (“Apple EULA”), which governs your license to the iOS app. If these Terms conflict with the Apple EULA about that license, the Apple EULA controls.
If you do not agree, do not use Pretext. You must be legally able to enter this agreement or have permission from a parent or legal guardian where required.
2. What Pretext provides
Pretext is a self-reflection and behavior-pattern tool. It lets you record avoided actions and excuses, create receipts and tiny next steps, review patterns, use Focus plans, and optionally chat with Mochi.
Some features rely on third-party services, including Apple, RevenueCat, Cloudflare, OpenRouter, model providers, and TelemetryDeck. Their services may be subject to separate terms and policies.
3. Not medical care or crisis support
App content and AI-generated responses can be incomplete, inaccurate, or inappropriate for your circumstances. Do not rely on Pretext for professional or emergency decisions. Consult a qualified professional when needed. If you may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or a qualified crisis resource.
4. Purchases and subscriptions
Pretext offers optional auto-renewing Pro subscriptions. The US base prices are $3.99 per month and $19.99 per year. There is no free trial. Apple displays the final localized price, currency, billing period, and any taxes before purchase.
- Payment is charged to your Apple account when you confirm the purchase.
- Your subscription renews automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Apple may charge the renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can manage or cancel in your Apple account’s Subscriptions settings.
- Refund requests and billing disputes are handled by Apple under its policies.
We may change prices or included features as permitted by Apple and applicable law. Existing subscribers receive any notice or consent flow Apple requires.
5. Acceptable use
You may use Pretext for personal, lawful purposes under the Apple EULA. You must not:
- Abuse, disrupt, overload, probe, or bypass limits or security controls;
- Use automated means to access the service except where we expressly allow it;
- Upload or transmit unlawful, infringing, malicious, or abusive content;
- Use optional AI features to facilitate harm, crime, or violations of another person’s rights; or
- Misrepresent Pretext output as professional medical, legal, or other expert advice.
6. Your content and our ownership
You retain your rights in the content you enter. You give us and our processors only the limited permission needed to process content for a feature you request, such as generating a chat response.
Pretext’s app, website, branding, illustrations, interface, and original content are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. No rights are granted except the limited right to use the service under these Terms and the Apple EULA.
7. Availability, changes, and termination
We may maintain, change, suspend, or discontinue features. We do not promise that cloud or AI features will always be available or that generated output will be accurate. Local features can also be affected by your device, operating system, storage, backups, and app updates.
We may restrict access to network features if you materially violate these Terms, threaten the service or other people, or where required by law. Rights and obligations that should reasonably survive termination will continue.
8. Disclaimers and responsibility
To the extent permitted by law, Pretext is provided “as is” and “as available.” Your use is at your own risk. We disclaim warranties not expressly required by law, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, loss of data, or reliance on generated output. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded. The Apple EULA also contains terms about warranty, liability, maintenance, and third-party claims.
9. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how information is handled, including local storage, optional analytics and chat, purchases, retention, and your choices.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the product or legal requirements change. We will update the effective date and provide additional notice when appropriate. Continued use after an update takes effect means you accept the revised Terms where permitted by law.
